Four Trends for 2016 + Winner

The start of a new year is always exciting! It's hard to imagine what surprises 2016 has in store for us, but today we'd like to make some predictions of our own as we share some of our favorite trends to inspired you to knit & crochet in the new year.

Trend #1: Softer Colors
If the 2016 Pantone Colors are any indication, softer and more soothing color palettes will take center stage. In the world of yarn, the trend appears to point more towards neutrals - but that's not to say that brights and neons will go away entirely! However, we have noticed recently that there are plenty of patterns trending on Ravelry which would fit the "soft color" trend, such as:
Briochealicious by Andrea Mowry
Snoqualmie by Michele Wang
Leading Bird by Leah B. Thibault

Trend #2: Colorwork Hats
It started with the Baable Hat, and now everywhere we look, we're seeing creative color work hats! Star Wars fans are knitting the Force Awakens hat in droves, and there are tons of new color work hat designs popping up on Ravelry; the 3 featured patterns below are all available as free downloads:
Trend #3 Blankets, Blankets Everywhere
From scrap yarn blanket mania to beautiful colorbocks, blanket projects are all the rage right now! There are a number of interesting techniques being used, too: arm knitting, Tunisian crochet, join-as-you-go mitered squares, you name it! Here are just a few pattern ideas to inspire you:
Modern Tunisian Quilt by Staci Perry
Arm Knit Cabled Blanket by flax & twine
Lydia & Sarah's Oh! Memories by Lydia Brown

Trend #4 Chunky Yarn
Big yarn, big needles (or hook), big trend! Fast projects using chunky weight yarns are not only instant-gratification, they're also a great way to stay warm during the chilly winter months without having to sacrifice style. Here are some great new patterns to try this month:
Annelise Cowl by Jennifer Romphf Designs
The Boyfriend Toque by Bree Zorel
Eveline by Grace Melville
