What Are Your Crafting Resolutions for 2018?

As 2017 winds down, it's a great time to take stock of your accomplishments for the past 12 months while also making plans for the year ahead. Perhaps you made some resolutions at the start of 2017; were you successful in all of them, or did a few escape your to-do list? Sometimes your priorities change as the year progresses, but you may decide to revisit those forgotten resolutions, or perhaps make new ones, as the calendar begins anew. We know that many knitters and crocheters embark on yearly challenges related to the craft - for instance, by pledging to knit a pair of socks each month, or going "cold sheep" and only knitting or crocheting from one's stash for an entire year.
Even if you don't make an official pledge for 2018, that there is always something new to learn about knitting, crocheting and crafting in general! We look forward to sharing lots of inspiration and tutorials with you in 2018, and we'd love to hear your suggestions for tutorials and other features you'd like to see.

Do you have any special challenges, techniques or projects you hope to tackle in 2018? Tell us about them in the comments for your chance to win a Leafy Yarn Holder from our 2017-18 Collection! Be sure to also include your Ravelry ID or email address so that we can contact you if you win. We will randomly select one lucky blog reader to announce as our winner on our first blog post of 2018.

From all of us a Knitter's Pride, have a safe and happy holiday season. See you in 2018!

  1. What a beautiful bowl! I'm hoping to knit one sweater for me next year. I always seem to be knitting for others so I thought I would try a Fair Isle yoke sweater for me at the beginning of the year which will leave me the rest of the year to knit for others :)

  2. My resolution is to knit what I want, when I want and for whom I want. I get railroaded into knitting constantly for others and I’ve not got many Knits for myself so I intend to change that. I want to tackle more complex patterns to time permitting. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2018

  3. I am very bad at finishing projects if they are large and take a lot of patience. I like to see end results and obviously have a short attention span! I resolve this coming year to stick to projects that are short or of a modest length so I get every one finished.

  4. My knitting plans for 2018 include more socks, and knitting from stash more often. That's not to say I won't be supplementing, but I'd like to try and use more of what I already have ;-)

  5. I really want to get better at stranded colorwork and I would love to learn double knitting. Also, I’m really hoping 2018 will be the year of my first garment. It’s time to move past only knitting shawls, socks, hats, accessories in general.

  6. Gosh there are so many things I would like to do in 2018! I'd like to give brioche a try and knit some colorwork socks. My big challenge for the year will be a shawl using lace weight yarn.

  7. I have three things I want to try in 2018. I would like to learn colourwork and Brioche, and learn to spin on a drop spindle. DChris on Rav.

  8. There are three fleeces waiting to be dyed and spun in my closet. Additionally, I have sweater quantities of handspun I’ve completed enough to knit at least two sweaters. My goal is to knit a sweater from my handspun for each of my offspring and my spouse. (This could well be more than a one-year endeavor.).

  9. After 50 (!) years of knitting and trying new stitches, the latest patterns and various weights of yarn, I have decided to add learning to punch needle rugs in 2018. It’s always a difficult decision to take time away from the knitting I love. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis this year at age 59. In order to continue working with the beautiful yarns and colors I have grown to love, I needed to find a craft that will be gentler on my hands and wrists. I’ve decided to not let this disease take away the pleasure and accomplishment I feel when working with fiber! Cheers to all in 2018!

  11. Mine is to successfully knit a sweater cuff to cuff using a pattern I originally used the wrong gauge for

  12. I already knit Continental, but my mom got me a pin and instruction DVD on Portuguese knitting, so I want to master that. Depending on which way the arthritis gods are blowing on any given day I want as many options as possible to keep knitting.

And doing knitting for some local charities, especially as a stash buster. Chemo caps in mink? Sounds like a plan to me!

  14. I'm not a good planner for anything more complicated than "In a second or two I'll inhale, then after that maybe I'll exhale". I don't make resolutions, because I can't seem to keep them. But when I don't make resolutions, the things I would have resolved to do somehow get done anyway. Must be some sort of Performance Pressure issue. So, without resolving so to do, next year I will make a sweater or two.

  48. What a beautiful yarn holder! My goals are to use up some of my stash by making a Persian Dreams blanket and making my first knit sweater. I'm pretty new to knitting so blankets, socks, hats and mittens have been my go-tos, need to step out of my box a bit. I also want to get a start on some new Christmas stockings for my family, maybe a little fair isle action on those. Happy New Year Knitter's Pride!
