Favorite Stretchy Cast-Ons for Sock Knitting
Once you have your yarn, pattern and needles, it's time to cast on! We've rounded up 3 of our favorite video tutorials for stretchy cast-ons below to help you get started. And if you're worried about Second Sock Syndrome? Consider knitting your socks two at a time - click here for our free tutorial!

German Twisted/Old Norwegian Cast On: This is a very popular cast on for socks, and for good reason - it's super stretchy, making it perfect for socks!

2x2 Tubular Cast On: This cast on can be used for any 2x2 ribbed cuff; it's a little more complex than the other options listed here, but it produces a beautifully stretchy edge.

Knit/Purl Cast On: Nearly invisible, this is a great choice for top-down socks. Best of all, it works for ANY rib combination!

One lucky blog reader will receive a Zing DPN Needle Set - just leave a comment on this blog post telling us the name of your favorite stretchy cast on, along with your Ravelry ID or email address so that we can contact you if you win. We will randomly select a winning comment to announce on our next blog post on Friday, May 25. Good luck!

  1. Too bad there's no way to enter for the yarn or Royale prizes WITHOUT PURCHASE. That makes this a raffle instead of a giveaway, which is illegal. Please provide a way to enter for those prizes without purchase.

  2. Jenny's Surprisingly Stretchy Cast On is my favorite. Savannagal on Rav.

  3. I like the German Twisted Cast On. I'm laceyj1204 on Ravelry.

  4. Jeny's Stretchy Slipknot Cast-On is as fun as her Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off, and I do love symmetry! (in life, not necessarily my shawls).

  6. I have always just used long tail CO but after watching your video I will be trying the German Twist CO with my next pair of socks. Brenda79 on ravelry.

  7. I do like the Old Norwegian/Twisted German cast on, but I might have to try some of these other ones.

  9. I like the Tubular. I always have to fight the slide of the socks, so the extra grab is appreciated.

  10. German Twisted cast on, woop woop! I can never remember it so I always have to watch a video when I use it but it's totally worth it!
