Tutorial: Block a Cowl in 3 Minutes Or Less!

Today on the blog we'll be using some of our favorite Knitter's Pride blocking tools to block a cowl in  3 minutes or less! Note, this assumes that you've already soaked your cowl in warm water and pressed the water out.

Once your cowl is ready to be blocked you'll need three tools: Knitter's Pride Lace Blocking Mats, Steel Wires, and our new Knit Blockers.

Next, insert through the opening of the cowl, with one at each end.

Secure the wires into place with two of the smaller Knit Blocker combs in the corners of the cowl.

Use the larger combs to pin the top and the bottom of the cowl into straight lines.

And voila! Now you just need to wait for your cowl to dry, unpin, and wear!

 Giveaway

Enter to win your own set of Knitter's Pride Knit Blockers! To enter to win leave a comment telling us why you need Knit Blockers in your life. We'll choose one lucky winner on Friday, March 27th!

  1. Well, at the moment I use wires which I finally acquired, and simple straight/sewing pins which is far from ideal. These blockers look amazing, almost magical in how easy they would make blocking!

  2. I really dislike blocking. I knit a project and either never block it, or it sits for weeks and weeks before I finally force myself to block the piece. For me it's the worst part of knitting. Anything to make it easier would be so helpful. I would love to give these a try. Savannagal on Rav.

  3. I'm currently in the middle of knitting a replica of one of the Fourth Doctor's scarves. They tend to be incredibly long. Mine might end up being 22 feet long! A blocking kit would be very helpful in blocking my project when I eventually finish it.

The little Etsy shop I run, plus things I sell through school help me pay for my schooling and I donation a portion of all proceeds to the Kingston Youth Shelter in Ontario, Canada. During the summer I use crochet & weaving techniques to teach kids how to turn milkbags into sleeping mats and how to finger knit! I also teach knitting workshops at Minotaur in Kingston and focus on mindfullness knitting since it is a university town and many of my attendees are looking for a stress reliever! 161. This looks like it "will" make blocking so much easier than how I do it now. If I had this, I think I would actually block more of my projects like you are recommended to do. Would love to have and give it a try.

  162. I don't have any blocking tools and these look like they would work so well for scarves and hats.

  163. I have never actually blocked anything. This would be a good chance to try.

  164. I am pretty new to knitting and haven't blocked anything. I am in the middle of knitting a shawl and have no idea how I will block it. The Knitting Blockers would relieve some of the anxiety I have about finishing this project.
    Thank you.

  165. Oh excellent! I need these blockers because at the moment I have a tote full of scarfs and cowls that need blocking before wearing. Every time I think of how many pins I would need to empty that tote I have a mini panic attack and decide I should forget it for another day!

  166. I need these blockers so I can block the huge back log of projects that I have that need to be blocked. It would be lovely to clear those off the to do list!

  167. Hi,
I have always put aside the task of blocking as it takes too much time and space. Now I need to finish blocking the dozen or so scarves and put them on sale. Looks like I missed my chance to win a blocking set. I would like to know where can I buy this in India and how much will it cost?
